The problem

Anglian Waters site at Chatteris has two separate Activated Sludge Plants. Both plants had need for more oxygen and had old aerators fitted which were unreliable and high in maintenance requiring additional aerators on hire.

The solution

Anglian Water made the decision to upgrade the aeration systems whilst also taking the opportunity to review and reduce energy use.
Suprafilt were selected as the most economical solution and were commissioned to supply and install new liftable grid aeration systems fitted with Suprafilt OM2.0m long stainless steel bodied diffusers. Suprafilt removed the existing aerators and installed the new systems without draining the tanks or indeed without interruption to the process. The new systems were successfully installed saving Anglian Water in excess of 90kw per hour as well as the ongoing maintenance costs of the old aerators.
