Suprafilt were selected to supply an aeration system for one of the world’s largest sequencing batch reactors.

Suprafilt was commissioned by contractor AECOM, on behalf of client GCA, to supply a new aeration system to Liverpool Wastewater Treatment Works for United Utilities.

The company, who design and manufacture energy efficient fine bubble diffused aeration solutions, together with a range of stainless-steel products including pipework and pressure vessels, will be delivering a high efficiency in-tank aeration system comprising of more than 70,000 9inch disc diffusers.

The diffusers will be mounted on environmentally friendly polypropylene pipes which are fed by 316 stainless steel header pipes.  The aeration system at Liverpool is the third of only three ‘double decker’ aeration systems in the world, and comprises 16 basins in total.

The project started on site in August 2013 and was completed by July 2014.

Kevin Jones, AECOM’s project manager for water, Europe, says: “Our relationship with Suprafilt began almost 20 years ago and continues to this day.  When we evaluated the different processes available for the new Liverpool Waste Water Treatment Works CASS Upgrade, our key criteria were low capital costs, reduced operational costs and a simple, flexible and robust process.

“We are confident that with Suprafilt we have met this standard and selected the best company for the project.  Suprafilt offers competitive prices, sound technical knowledge and great support from tender stage through to project delivery.”
