Our History
Founded in 1995, Suprafilt Coates was initially a joint venture between German company Suprafilt Gmbh and Coates Engineering. The company quickly gained a reputation-winning work, with the likes of Welsh Water Anglian Water, South West Water and Scottish Water.
A move to Rochdale and a new fabrication partner soon followed. This allowed us to secure progressively larger and more complex projects, including the UK’s largest liftable grid aeration system for Anglian Water.
In 2001, after a management buyout, Suprafilt severed all links with our original German partners and two years later we secured our first overseas project in Sharjah in the UAE.
Over the years we’ve always looked to bring advanced thinking to the industry. We were the first to the UK market with an innovative fine bubble diffuser from US-based SSI. Indeed within a few years we ensured that more SSI diffusers were sold in the UK than in the US.
In 2011 we also established our own installation team, allowing us to take full control of projects from cradle to grave.
Suprafilt moved to Whitewell Bottom, Rossendale, in February 2016 after almost 20 years in Rochdale. Our existing premises are three times the size and allow us to discharge even larger projects. Now a well-established name, working with water companies and leaders in other industries, we regularly deliver multi-million contracts.
In 2024, Suprafilt became part of the Aerzen Group – with over 50 subsidiaries all over the world will enable us to serve our customers while strengthening our position more effectively.
Community
We have introduced a ‘lasting legacy’ programme, with a commitment to leave a positive lasting legacy at the sites we have worked on for the local community.
We started the programme by becoming involved in creating a community garden in Failsworth where Suprafilt will provide a water feature. Our legacy programme may also include volunteering hours, physical donations or employing local people for roles such as labourers and plant hire drivers.
Staff Wellbeing
We truly believe that a happy and healthy workforce is a productive workforce. We believe this approach also enables employees to think clearer and helps to reduce unnecessary stress.
Here at Suprafilt, we hold a 5-a-side football match between employees every month, we host mindfulness sessions, we buy cakes to celebrate contract wins and we are continually developing our company social ethos.
Innovation
Suprafilt have a long-standing relationship with University of Sheffield on the development of micro bubble diffusers with fluidic oscillators. We pride ourself in remaining at the forefront of the aeration industry. Sheffield University have collaborated with Suprafilt to prove the science of aeration and its application.
