Suprafilt successfully provided a new aeration system and associated services for Severn Trent’s Waste Water Treatment Plant at Strongford, Staffordshire.
Project Overview
Client:
Severn Trent
Delivery Contractor:
JN Bentley

The six-month project, carried out on behalf of main contractors JN Bentley, at the time represented Suprafilt’s second largest contract. It was successfully delivered on budget to the customer’s satisfaction.

Suprafilt were engaged to supply and install a new aeration system, header pipework and walkway to an existing Activated Sludge Plant (ASP) and new aeration lane to increase capacity and efficiency at the Stoke-on-Trent plant

Suprafilt provided a complete ‘packaged-up solution’, which provided the customer with all the elements required for the project with attractive capital and whole-life costs.

The air main installation, connecting blowers to existing ASP headers and the new aeration lane, was the largest ever undertaken by Suprafilt, with a one-metre diameter and a width of 16m running across a live ASP.

Suprafilt also installed new high-efficiency ABS turbo blowers, fine-bubble diffusers with 12-inch discs and Teflon-coated PTFE membranes to reduce fouling and extend life, and a new stainless-steel walkway.

They also had to incorporate a ‘live’ break-in to fit a stainless-steel break-in piece, connecting the plant’s existing system to the new blowers. That had to be performed within a four-hour window to allow the continuous operation of the treatment process.
